Born on 21st December, 1952 in the village of Emu (Oworo Community), Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria, Dr. Olorunfemi was a devoted husband, a loving father and an iconic leader who never turned his back on anyone in need. He lived a fulfilled life, one worthy of emulation, driven by compassion and founded upon the love of Christ.
Dr. Olorunfemi was a devoted husband. Caring and passionate about his wife and about their marriage. Dr. Olorunfemi & his wife, Bola met in Ife in the summer of 1976 during their University days, and remained inseparable until his Call to Glory. Despite being a driven, ambitious and remarkably focused husband, he was funny, charming and had an electrifying smile that always melted Bola’s heart. It is no secret that Dr. Olorunfemi admired Bola, and fondly spoke of her as his Sun, Moon and Star packaged in one. Dr. Olorunfemi and “BB”, as he fondly called her, were hardly ever seen separately, and as the children grew to start their own families - they spent almost every day together.
Dr. Olorunfemi was always interested in the welfare of his wife and children, as well as other extended family members with his focus on quality education. It was always paramount to him that he never left a void as a husband and father.
Over the years, Olorunfemi taught his Children, one after the other, on the importance of leadership within and outside the four corners of the home, the value of time and- as the children grew older - the power of a unified home. He taught through practical examples. One of which he is fondly remembered for, is stepping out of his vehicle to order traffic during rush hour before the authorities would show up to take over - thus encouraging his children to be the change they desired, whenever, wherever.
He remained a happy, encouraging and supporting husband, father and grandfather until his departure.
Dr. Biodun Nathaniel Olorunfemi was a strong believer. He was a leader when it came to the things of God, and everything he did was founded upon the principles of the Gospel to spread love.
Dr. Olorunfemi was referred to as the “Dancing Elder”. He was always excited about praising God and encouraging those around him to do so even in the toughest of times. It goes without saying that he was a dedicated disciple of Christ.
Dr. Olorunfemi supported numerous communities, groups and individuals in need. He was always known to never turn his back on those in need, including widows and orphans, thus fulfilling the words of the scripture in Proverbs 14: 31 “...Whoever is kind to the needy honours God”. Dr. Olorunfemi had many non-biological children because of his fatherly nature of carrying the burdens of others and being a role model and mentor.
He had a passion for winning souls for Christ, and sponsored many activities towards this cause. Until his departure, he served as the Chairman of the Elders Forum at Living Faith Church, Toronto.
Dr. Olorunfemi was always known for being extra-ordinary in his dedication to serving right from a very young age. Coming from a long line of servants of the people, including his own father who served as the King of the Emu Community and Deputy Olu of the entire Oworoland, Dr. Olorunfemi did not take long to follow in the same footsteps, acknowledging the importance of leadership through service wherever he went.
After earning his Bachelors and Masters in Geology at the University of Ibadan and University of Ife respectively, he received a scholarship to study in the University of Western, Ontario, where he completed his PhD in Geology, authoring several books along with the late Professor W.S. Fyfe in 1983.
